Former Central Catholic star is named new head coach at LCCC

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER Jenn Shellhammer, a softball star at Central Catholic who went on to success at two Division I college programs, has returned to the Lehigh Valley as the new women's softball coach at Lehigh-Carbon Community College. Athletic director Joceyln Beck confirmed the hiring on Tuesday. She will replace Denny Barr. Shellhammer was one of the best pitchers in CCHS history and one of the sport's top stars in the 1990s. She was an all-East Penn Conference standout as a junior and senior at CCHS and named a Fastpitch Magazine High School All-American following her senior year in 1997. She began her collegiate career at Radford University, where she broke numerous pitching records as a freshman and earned all-Big South Conference honors for two seasons. She still holds Radford records for most strikeouts in a game and season. Shellhammer then transferred to the University of Maryland where completed her last two years of eligibility. With the Terrapins she won ACC Pitcher of the Week honors and was named the Spring Clash MVP at George Mason University during her junior year and made the the all-tournament team in the Buzz Classic in Atlanta.
