TV NEWS JANUARY 16

https://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2020/01/tca-winter-2020-press-tour-cable-day-2.html

It was day two of the cable portion for the TCA Winter 2020 Press Tour. Turner networks were among the nets up. TBS has ordered two more seasons of the top-rated animated comedy American Dad! part of the network's escapist, lean-back line-up of smart, imaginative programming that tells stories with heart and a comedic edge. Currently ranked as a top 5 cable comedy – with the current season reaching an audience of nearly 18 million viewers across all TBS platforms – American Dad! has been a significant performer ever since joining the network. The series from 20th Century Fox Television will celebrate its momentous 300th episode this year, joining the ranks of only a few adult animated comedies to reach this landmark. TBS has greenlit Lost Resort, an upstairs/downstairs look at the booming subculture of exotic wellness retreats. Produced by ITV America’s Sirens Media, the 10-episode unscripted series follows a group of strangers who are immersed in a three-week-long Costa Rican retreat led by a colorful team of alternative healers.

TV NEWS JANUARY 9

https://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2020/01/tca-winter-2020-press-tour-abc-includes.html

Yesterday was day two of the TCA Winter 2020 Press Tour and ABC was up. We got many announcements, including the finale date for Modern Family. The Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan are ready to say goodbye but not before giving fans one final night of belly laughs as one of television's great family comedies. Currently in its 11th and final season, ABC announced that the Emmy(R) Award-winning series Modern Family will air its series farewell episode on Wednesday, April 8, on ABC. In addition, ABC is giving fans the power to program an entire night filled with their favorite Modern Familyepisodes that will air Wednesday, March 11 from 8:00-11:00pm EDT. The night will kick off with the episode that started it all - the Modern Family series premiere - followed by five additional fan-chosen episodes, giving viewers a chance to gather their families for the ultimate Modern Family binge and relive some of the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan's most hilarious, jaw-dropping and monumental moments. Voting for your favorite Modern Family episodes will begin Monday, Feb. 3, via a daily Twitter poll from the show's Twitter handle and concludes Friday, Feb. 7. Each day, a different selection of episodes will be available for fans to choose from for a curated night of Modern Family fun!

https://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2020/01/tca-winter-2020-press-tour-fox-13.html

Fox kicked off the TCA Winter 2020 Press Tour yesterday. Among the news items include a spinoff of a mega hit reality show. Fox is partnering with Emmy Award-winning talk show host Ellen DeGeneres to produce The Masked Dancer, a new celebrity competition show based on the smash hit Fox series The Masked Singer and inspired by a popular segment featured on The Ellen Show. In this all-new format, celebrity contestants will perform unique dances, while covered from head-to-toe in elaborate costumes and face masks, leaving audiences to guess their identities. A nod to The Masked Singer, the guessing game was introduced on The Ellen Show, with celebrities such as Howie Mandel, Sean Hayes, Derek Hough and The Masked Singer's own panelist, Ken Jeong.

https://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2020/01/happy-new-year-binge-on-merry-happy.html

Happy New Year to everyone out there! It's a start of a new decade. The new '20s! Thanks for visiting us on this holiday. Speaking of holidays, the new Netflix sitcom Merry Happy Whatever has been out for a month (as we first announced) but it's still the season to catch-up. The multi-camera sitcom follows Don Quinn (Dennis Quaid), a strong-willed patriarch from Philadelphia doing his best to balance the stress of the holidays with the demands of his close-knit but eclectic family - and his family doing their best to manage him. But when youngest daughter Emmy (Bridgit Mendler) arrives home from L.A. with a new boyfriend, struggling musician Matt (Brent Morin), Don's belief that "there's the Quinn way... and the wrong way" is put to the test. Note: The first season of the show, which has 8 episodes, takes place over the week or so around Christmas. Ashley Tisdale, Garcelle Beauvais and Hayes MacArthur also star. Future seasons of Merry Happy Whatever might explore other holidays.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
