State police to run DUI checkpoints during NASCAR Pocono 400

State troopers will be setting up DUI checkpoints and having extra patrols in Monroe County communities around Pocono Raceway, the 2 1/2-mile Long Pond superspeedway that will host activities Friday through Sunday. "The checkpoints will be used in conjunction with enforcement patrols that will saturate surrounding areas with marked patrol vehicles in an effort to deter intoxicated drivers," states a new release from the state police Fern Ridge barracks. The DUI checkpoints will be in operation Friday and Saturday in Tunkhannock, Tobyhanna, Penn Forest, Chestnuthill and Jackson townships. Long Pond is located in Tunkhannock.
