Boxing is underway at the Sands --Newell gets a draw

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER Eric Newell, the former Bethlehem Catholic and Kutztown University football player, has the distinction of being involved in the first boxing match ever held here at the Sands Event Center. They are expecting close to 2,000 here at the area's entertainment/sports venue for this , but about one-quarter of that total was on hand when Newell opened the seven-fight. Newell, who came in with a professional mark of 4-1, took on Tyyab Beale of Newark (5-3) in a four-rounder. The 265-pound Newell, 27, Boxing 004never could get on track and wound up with an unsatifisfying draw. Judge Pierre Benoyst had Newell winning 39-37. Judge Phil Rogers had Beale on top 39-37 and judge Julie Lederman had it 38-38. The NBC Sports Network, featuring the legendary Fred Roach, comes on the air at 9 p.m.
