SUPER BOWL THOUGHTS

Here are some of the highlights of the Super Bowl XLIV telecast on CBS.



Best Commercials – “Lost” spoof for Bud Light, The “I Will” ad for the Dodge Charger, The Robot’s “hurt feelings” for Intel Core Processors, Jay Leno, David Letterman, and Oprah Winfrey for “The Late Show”



Worst Commercials – Toyota recall apology, The E-Trade babies, “Flowers in a box” for Teleflora, The “Super Bowl Shuffle” remake for Boost mobile, The back to back underwear commercials for careerbuilder.com and Dockers



National Anthem – “National Anthem” singer Carrie Underwood was upstaged by her opening act, Queen Latifah, who sang “America The Beautiful.”



Tiger Beat – One of the first commercials was for Callaway golf equipment and CBS also aired a promo for the Masters. Neither featured Tiger Woods.



Celebrity Beat – LeBron James, Dwight Howard and Larry Bird for McDonalds, Danica Patrick for godaddy.com and “CSI: New York,” Rascal Flatts for “CSI,” Betty White and Abe Vigoda for Snickers, Tim Tebow for focusonthefamily.org, The Simpsons for Coke, T-Pain for Bud Light, Joe Montana for Sketchers, Mark Sanchez for The American Heart Association, Brett Favre for Hyundai and NFL.com, Kiss for Dr. Pepper, Troy Polamalo for TruTV, Jim Nantz for FloTV, Megan Fox for Motorola, Stevie Wonder and Tracy Morgan for Volkswagon, Lance Armstrong for Michelob Light, Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo as the Griswolds for homeaway.com, Rachael Harris, Ed Begley Jr., and Bob Balaban for The U.S. Census, Beyonce for Vizio, Charles Barkley for Taco Bell



Philly Beat - CBS3 used their precious airtime to promote their late news,
claiming it was “Philadelphia’s most-watched late news,” their morning news, their coverage of Saturday’s blizzard, and weather with Kathy Orr. Former Eagle Hank Baskett muffed the on-side kick by New Orleans.



Movie Trailers – “Robin Hood” with Russell Crowe, “The Wolfman” with Benicio Del Toro, “Shutter Island” with Leonardo DiCaprio, “Alice in Wonderland” with Johnny Depp, “Prince of Persia” with Jake Gyllenhaal



CBS Promos – “NCIS,” “CSI,” “CSI: Miami” (with David Caruso’s shades), “CSI: New York,” “Two and a Half Men,” “The Big Bang Theory,” “How I Met Your Mother,” CBS Network, “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “Criminal Minds,” “The Amazing Race,” CBS News, “The Mentalist,” “Survivor,” “The Masters,” “Undercover Boss”



Biggest Surprise – Jay Leno joining David Letterman and intermediary Oprah Winfrey, for a “Late Show with David Letterman” promo. Winfrey and Letterman teamed up for a promo for a previous “Super Bowl.”



Soundtrack – Will I Am’s remake of “My Generation” for FloTV, ELO’s “Don’t Bring Me Down” for Roundup, Jay Z and Rhianna’s “Run This Town” for the game, Cheap Trick’s “Dream Police” for Audi, Bill Wither’s “Ain’t No Sunshine” for Dante’s Inferno video game



Halftime Concert Review – The Who, which is on CBS three nights a week with the themes to all of the “CSIs”, played their big hits including “Pinball Wizard,” “Baba O’Reilly,” “Who Are You,” and “Won’t Get Fooled Again.” The NFL “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” as no female artist has performed at halftime “The Super Bowl” since the Janet Jackson “wardrobe malfunction” of a few years ago.
