Stephen Strasburg lives up to the advanced billing in 5-2 win over Pittsburgh

Stephen Strasburg was an equal opportunity menace in his electric major league debut. He struck out everybody he faced.

With heaters reaching 100 mph and nasty curveballs that seemed impossible to hit, the Washington Nationals phenom fanned 14 batters in seven innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Before a standing-room-only crowd, Strasburg struck out every Pirates player in the starting lineup. It's the most strikeouts in a major league debut since J.R. Richard fanned 15 for Houston in 1971.

Last year's No. 1 overall draft pick threw 94 pitches, 65 for strikes, and didn't walk a batter.

The 21-year-old right-hander made one noticeable mistake, a changeup hit for a two-run homer by Delwyn Young in the fourth inning.

Strasburg left for a pinch hitter in the seventh inning with a 4-2 lead and earned his first major league victory as Washington won 5-2.
