BELLEFONTE WINS FIRST STATE TITLE

Just call them state champs. The first Bellefonte team EVER to win a state championship.

Trailing 2-0 at the start of the seventh inning, Bellefonte's offense came alive.

The Lady Raiders scored three runs to take their first lead, 3-2, over Jersey Shore in the Class AAA title game.

Earlier Bellefonte escaped a bases loaded, no out jam in the second but couldn't hold Jersey Shore in the third. Jersey Shore scored twice and its 2-0 lead held up until the seventh.

Eight straight Bellefonte batters had been retired going into the seventh, the final inning in softball.

The Lady Raiders won their 24th game this season and secured their place in Bellefonte history. No team had won a state title ... until today.

It was the third state title game for the Lady Raiders. "We're hoping the third time is a charm," said coach Gregg Kohlhepp this week.
