WRESTLING TIMES MOVED UP FOR FRIDAY

Nazareth and Pen Argyl Area high schools were rewarded this morning for their success this season.

The District 11 wrestling committee met at Whitehall High School, and after about an hour of discussion, awarded No. 1 seeds to the Lehigh Valley Conference champion Blue Eagles for the Class AAA district duals tournament and to the Colonial League champion Green Knights for the Class AA tournament.

The action starts Friday at Freedom High School. First-round matches commence at 2:30 p.m., with the finals set for 6 p.m. Saturday, pending the forecasted snowstorm.

Nazareth (12-1) defeated Northampton 33-19 Wednesday night to clinch the LVC title. (Check out a photo gallery of the match here.) Pen Argyl (14-0) finished off a perfect Colonial League season with a 66-9 win over Palmerton on Wednesday night.

The top two teams in each classification at the district tournament advance to next week's PIAA team duals.

First round, 2:30 p.m. -- No. 8 Blue Mountain vs. No. 9 Pleasant Valley; No. 7 Stroudsburg vs. No. 10 Pocono Mountain East.

Quarterfinals -- No. 1 Nazareth vs. Blue Mountain-Pleasant Valley winner, 6:15 p.m.; No. 4 Easton vs. No. 5 Liberty, 4:15 p.m.; No. 3 Northampton vs. No. 6 Whitehall, 4:15 p.m.; No. 2 Parkland vs. Stroudsburg-Pocono Mountain East winner, 6:15 p.m.
