Stroudsburg ousted in state softball playoffs

Stroudsburg's historic girls softball season came to an end on Monday with a 4-0 loss to Gov. Mifflin in the first round of the PIAA 4A softball tournament.

The Mountain Valley Conference and District 11 champs were shut out on four hits by Mustangs' junior Jess Epler, who struck out nine.

The Mounties, who finished 20-6, couldn't score despite having two baserunners in both the first and third innings.

Gov. Mifflin, the District 3 runnerup, scored twice in both the fourth and fifth innings.

Jaime Babczak's RBI-double highlighted the fourth and Rachel Fritz drilled a two-run double in the fifth.

Stroudsburg got two hits from Kutztown University-bound senior Morgan Booth and one apiece from Bridget O'Malley and Madi Liedberg.

Gov. Mifflin advances to Thursday's quarterfinals against either St. Hubert's or Coatesville.
