Amid all of the softball excitement, Palisades announces coaching changes

Palisades athletic director Becky George isn't just relaxing and enjoying the historic run her softball team is making. (By the way, no word yet on where the Palisades-Jersey Shore game will be played on Monday yet. The PIAA doesn't seem to be in a hurry to announce these sites this year).

Becky has been busy hiring coaches.

Here's the release she sent out this morning:

PALISADES’ PIRATES HEAD COACHING CHANGES:

Head Girls Soccer Coach, Mark Chilton, resigns:

After seven years as the head coach of Palisades’ Girls Soccer program, Mark Chilton announced that he will not return to coach next season.

“The Girls Soccer program has seen its share of successes due, in large part, to the heart and dedication of Coach Chilton over the past seven years,” said Rebecca George, Director of Athletics. “One sign of a great coach is when former players return home and take time to check in with their former teammates and coaching staff. Coach Chilton has a connection with student-athletes that will be missed.”

Chilton coached the Pirates to post season play in five of the last seven years. He led his team to the State Soccer Tournament in 2008 and in 2009, winning the Colonial League Southern Division four consecutive years from 2006 to 2009. Five of Coach Chilton’s players are currently competing at the collegiate level and two of his athletes were All-State players. Chilton Coached a total of 153 games for the Pirates of Palisades and is resigning with an overall record of 91-57-5 and a winning percentage of 61.

It has been a privilege to be a part of so many student-athlete’s lives and have an opportunity to impact them in a positive way,” Coach Chilton Said.

Chilton will remain as a contracted teacher in the Science Department at Palisades. Mr. Chilton received his teaching certifications in Biology from Penn State University and he received his Masters in Education from Lehigh University.
