2010 National Letter of Intent Day for District Football Players
2/3/2010 - MSA Sports
The WPIAL and Pittsburgh City League produced a total of 28 Division I college players this football season. Pitt and Penn State both had five recruits from the WPIAL. It is six for Pitt if you count Todd Thomas, a Beaver Falls graduate who is attending Milford Academy, a prep school in New York.
The players who are highest ranked are Sto-Rox quarterback Paul Jones and Canon-McMillan linebacker Mike Hull, who are both Penn State recruits. Super Prep magazine ranks Jones the number three quarterback in the country and Hull the number four linebacker. Jones already is enrolled at Penn State for the spring semester and will partcipate in spring practices.
Most scouting services rank Penn State's class in the Top 10. Pitt's class is usually ranked in the 20s. West Virginia did not sign one WPIAL or City League player.
After Pitt and Penn State, two colleges signed three players each from the WPIAL.
Michigan got Trinity linebacker-defensive lineman Ken Wilkins, Hampton defensive lineman-linebacker Jordan Paskorz and Penn Hills defensive back Cullen Christian.
Syracuse also got three from the WPIAL - Franklin Regional offensive lineman Sean Hickey, Woodland Hills running back Dom Timbers and Penn Hills linebacker Myles Davis.
