FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES
Down they went, one by one.
One contestant forgot the "e" in "deluxe." One had trouble spelling "hassock." And another couldn't piece "mongrel" together correctly.
And 41 more eliminations led to a showdown between four spellers at Thursday's regional finals for the Scripps National Spelling Bee at Northampton Community College.
Wind Gap Middle School eighth-grader Mason Hudnall spelled "occident" incorrectly, then North Warren Regional Middle School seventh-grader Glenn Bechtler fumbled with the word "emanant."
Ridge and Valley Charter School sixth-grader SadieGrace Price-Elliot couldn't spell "synusia," so Lopatcong Township Middle School eighth-grader Aditya Rao spelled "temerarious."
He won by spelling the word "subaqueous."
Rao will be heading to Washington, D.C., to compete in the 2013 Scripps National Spelling Bee May 28-30.
