FROM KEITH GROLLER
District 11 teams went 4-5 this weekend in the first round of the PIAA boys basketball tournament, but it could have been so much better were it not for three tough losses suffered by the Bethlehem teams.
Liberty and Freedom both fell by two points on Saturday and Bethlehem Catholic led by seven before losing by three on Friday night.
As for the other two losses suffered by District 11 teams, well, at least Notre Dame and Salisbury won't agonize over a play here and a play there over the next few months
They both were routed by District 12 teams that won state titles last year and look more than capable of winning more gold this year.
Speaking of District 12, it's not surprising that the Philadelphia Public and Catholic Leagues have the most teams remaining of the 64 moving on this week.
Here's the breakdown of who's left in the state tournament:
DISTRICT 4A 3A 2A 1A Total left
District One 6 1 0 1 -- 8
District Two 0 2 1 0 -- 3
District Three 2 2 2 0 -- 6
District Four 1 0 1 2 -- 4
District Five 0 0 1 1 -- 2
District Six 0 1 2 1 -- 4
District Seven 3 3 2 3 -- 11
District Nine 0 0 0 3 -- 3
District Ten 1 2 3 0 -- 6
District Eleven 1 1 0 2 -- 4
District Twelve 2 4 4 3 -- 13
