Reports of Legion's death greatly exaggerated?

FROM THE MORNING CALL
For 44 years, Chic Kennedy has dedicated part of his summer to Northampton County Legion baseball. Most of that time — 35 or 36 years, by his count — he has served as the Norco Legion League president.
When he surveys the league these days, he sees signs of peril.
Some teams in Norco have struggled to fill their rosters. A compressed schedule compromises the quality of play. The growth of tournament baseball has given players options outside of American Legion. And some of the players who sign up for Legion ball don't show the same commitment Kennedy saw from kids 10 years ago.
"You have to hand it to our coaches," Kennedy said during a recent phone interview. "They really work hard and do the best they can to keep everything going. One of these days I'm afraid we're going to lose those dedicated coaches and they're going to say, 'The heck with it. I don't want to put up with it anymore.' "
