Bath hammers way into American Legion regional final

http://www.mcall.com/sports/mc-jim-sawyer-bath-north-parkland-american-legion--20120724,0,3959519.story FROM THE MORNING CALL WEST LAWN — Jim Sawyer expected himself and his Bath teammates to pitch, hit and defend their way to the final day of Region 2 American Legion tournament at Owls Field. It took until the fourth day of the event before Bath lived up to expectations in two of those areas. Sawyer continued the team's strong pitching and helped the bats come alive with three of Bath's 19 hits en route to a 16-4 thumping of Shillington on Tuesday in a game halted after seven innings because of the 10-run rule. "This is how the team hits," Sawyer said after striking out nine in pitching the complete game. "It was good to see the bats come out." Bath, which must beat Doylestown twice Wednesday starting at 1 p.m., is bidding to become the first Northampton County legion team to win a regional title since Northampton won back-to-back crowns in 1995-96. Doylestown held off North Parkland 6-5 in Tuesday's nightcap to knock out the Buffaloes.
