Parkland wins SportsFest boys tourney, rallies to beat Del Val Charter 61-58

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER Austin Beidelman scored 19 points and hit some clutch 3-pointers late to rally Parkland from a late seven-point deficit to defeat Delaware Valley Charter 61-58 in the finals of the SportsFest A-town Throwdown boys basketball tournament Sunday night at Cedar Beach. Beidelman was named the tournament's MVP and hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with about 35 seconds left to give Parkland a 56-55 lead. He also hit a pair of free throws and the Trojans were able to hold on for the championship. Justin Zajko scored 22 points and earned a spot on the all-tournament team. The taller and more physical Warriors had just six players, but seemed to have enough to hold off Parkland and led by as much as 55-48 with just over two minutes late. But missed free throws (Del Val was 0-for-6 at the line in the second half) opened the door for the Trojans, who took advantage. Parkland was the only Lehigh Valley team to reach the final four. Allen and Dieruff were the only other teams to reach the quarterfinals after Easton, Liberty, Emmaus, Stroudsburg, Pocono Mountain West and Freedom all lost in Sweet 16 games. Emmaus lost to Bishop McDevitt in triple overtime and Allen edged Freedom in one OT.
