Sports Media Digest- January 26, 2012

NBA Action Returns to ABC- ABC’s NBA Sunday Showcase returns to the network this Sunday as the Miami Heat visit the Chicago Bulls. Tip-off is at 3;30p.m. ET with Mike Breen, Jeff Van Gundy and Lisa Salters on the call. Relatedly, through 14 games on ESPN, ratings are averaging 1.7, an increase of 31 percent when compared with a 1.3 rating for 13 NBA games during the same time span last season.

CBS Has College Hoops Saturday and Sunday- With the NFL on hiatus, CBS will have college basketball action on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday at 1:00p.m. ET Texas travels to #6 Baylor with Verne Lundquist and Clark Kellogg calling the action. Kevin Harlan and Bill Raftery will have the call Sunday at 1:00p.m. ET as #20 Michigan travels to #4 Ohio State.

Storm to Host a NFL Interview Show Next Week- ESPN’s Hannah Storm will host a special interview program next week entitled SportsCenter Special: NFL Face to Face with Hannah Storm. Storm sits down with Aaron Rodgers, Cam Newton, Ndamukong Suh, and Jim Irsay in this one-hour program. SportsCenter Special: NFL Face to Face with Hannah Storm airs Tuesday, January 31st at 9:00p.m. ET.

NBC Teams with NSF on the Science of Hockey- NBC is teaming with the National Science Foundation to produce a 10-part video series exploring the science behind hockey. NBC News’ Lester Holt narrates the series, which will appear on NBCLearn.com,NBCSports.com and Science360.gov. Some ofthe videos will also air during the All-Star weekend on NBC Sports Network.

UFC Returns to Fox This Weekend- The UFC kicks-off its partnership with Fox Sports this weekend. Action begins tomorrow at 5:00p.m. ET with UFC on Fuel: Weigh-In Live on Fuel TV. Saturday Fuel will have three preliminary matches also beginning at 5:00p.m. ET. Fox will carry a triple header main event Saturday night beginning at 8:00p.m. ET.

NBC Sports Covers the U.S. Figure Skating Championships- NBC Sports will provide seven hours of live coverage of this year’s U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Action begins Saturday at 4:00p.m. ET with tape of the Ladies Short Program and the Free Dance finals. Saturday at 9:00p.m. ET live coverage of he Ladies Free Program will take place. Sunday at 3:00p.m. ET NBC will provide live coverage of the Pairs Free Program as well as the Men’s Free Program.

PBR Back on CBS Sports Network This Weekend- Professional Bull Riders (PBR) will be back on the CBS Sports Network this weekend with the Ariat Invitational Championship. Coverage begins at 6:00p.m. ET Sunday night.
