Parkland rally falls short, Trojans lose to Scranton 54-49

FROM KEITH GROLLER

It was a lost weekend for the Parkland Trojans boys basketball team.

Two close, competitive games and two tough losses for the Trojans who have now dropped two straight after losing just once in their first 16 games. This one was not as heartbreaking as Friday's loss at the buzzer to Allen.

The Trojans fell to Scranton 54-49 in a game they never led.

Zach Muhr led Parkland with 18 points, but the Trojans didn't have the firepower to match an impressive Scranton team that could be a contender in the PIAA 4A tournament.

It was not a very good day for the Lehigh Valley as Central Catholic was blown out by Council Rock North in the day's opener.

Overall, the crowd was down here at Parkland for the Showcase. The only buzz was created by an appearance by Syracuse coach Jim Boeheim, who was recruiting St. Benedict's Tyler Ennis.

Rutgers coach Mike Rice was also here, but overall, the day lacked its usual sizzle.

Maybe the fact that The Comcast Network televised all four games live kept a few fans away. I don't know.

But the Hoop Group people still love Parkland and plan to be back here again next year.

For the local high school boys basketball scene, it's back to the regular season on Tuesday night. I am looking forward to the Emmaus-Freedom game.

Just two weeks left in the regular season. The good stuff is just about to begin.
