LEHIGH VALLEY BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION will hold an introduction to beekeeping session 7-9:30 p.m. Wednesday, and Feb. 15 and 29 and March 14 at Lehigh Carbon Community College, Schnecksville. Members of the association, some of whom are certified master beekeepers, will conduct the classes. Registration fee of $45 per person will include books and reference guides. Hands on experience at the club hives will be included as soon as weather allows. Class size is limited; registration closes Monday. ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 40 S. Second St., Slatington will hold a pork and sauerkraut supper Feb. 4 with seatings at 4, 4:45, 5:30, 6:15, and 7 p.m. Also on the menu will be mashed potatoes, buttered lima beans, bread and butter, apple butter, home-made desserts, and beverages. Tickets are $8 for those ages 13 and older and $3 for ages 6-12 and free for ages five and younger. For reservations, call the church office at 610-767-6361. The snow date is Feb. 11.

NORTHAMPTON COUNTY


JACOBSBURG ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION CENTER, in partnership with Pocono Heritage Land Trust, will hold a free Adventure to the Ancients hike in Eldred Township, today, Sunday, Jan. 29. Hikers will explore a variety of habitats, including old fields, young emerging forests and a steep ravine lined by 200-year-old hemlock trees. Lehigh Valley residents should meet at noon at the center, 835 Jacobsburg Road, Bushkill Township. Poconos-area residents should meet at 1 p.m. at the Blue Ridge Flea Market parking lot, just off the Saylorsburg exit of Route 33 South. HOLY TRINITY ORTHODOX CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1023 Fifth St., Catasauqua, will hold a halupki dinner 4:30-6 p.m. Feb. 4. Dinner includes two halupki, mashed potatoes, vegetable, dessert, soft drink or coffee. The cost is $9 for adults and free for ages five and younger. Children will receive one halupki and sides for $6. Take out dinners available. Halupki may also be purchased separately for $2.75 each by advance order only by Monday. BETHLEHEM YWCA will kick off its 37th annual Great Decisions Global Affairs Education Discussion Program 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Kirkland Village, 1 Kirkland Village Circle, Bethlehem. Mark Stein, chair of the History Department at Muhlenberg College, will discuss Middle East realignment and what lies ahead as the Middle East transitions to democracy. Seven subsequent speakers will present a lecture 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesdays through March 21. The cost for all eight lectures is $90 per person or $105 per couple (non-YWCA members); $65 per person or $85 per couple (YWCA members). SCHUYLKILL CONSERVATION DISTRICT will hold a free Groundhog Day celebration Thursday at Sweet Arrow Lake Clubhouse, 108 Clubhouse Road, Pine Grove. Grover the Groundhog will make his weather prediction at 9 a.m. He will be joined by his new bride, Sweet Arrow Sue, as well as all of his friends. After the prediction, members of Pine Grove Grundsau Lodge #5 will entertain with Pennsylvania Dutch stories and songs. The free festivities also include a Pennsylvania Dutch video presentation and music by the Groundhog Band. Breakfast will be available beginning at 7:30 a.m. at a cost of $5. MONROE COUNTY CONSERVATION DISTRICT, 8050 Running Valley Road, Hamilton Township, is selling tree seedlings in quantities of 250 or more until Friday. Varieties include: Colorado blue spruce, Scotch pine, Frasier fir/balsam fir hybrid, and concolor fir. Orders may be picked up April 19-21. Smaller quantities may be ordered in March.
