Northampton woman charged with writing bad check for trailer repairs

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

A 30-year-old Northampton woman was charged today with writing a$5,000 bad check for repairs to her trailer.

Laura Anne Muhr, of the 2500 block of Cherryville Road, Northampton, wrote the check March 10 from her Wachovia Bank account for $4,988.16 to pay for repairs to her Sonny Brook trailer, police say.

The check was returned to the owner of Harold's RV Center in Bath, which handled repairs to Muhr's trailer, April 4, court records say.

After several attempts to contact her, the owner reached Muhr, who told him that she would be in to settle the bill, according to court papers.

Police say Muhr received and signed a certified letter from the owner of the RV center April 22 requesting settlement.

Muhr did not try to settle the payment or contact the owner after the letter was received, according to court documents.

Muhr told police May 3 she was waiting for her income tax refund and assumed it would have been deposited before the check cleared.

She said she recently had a baby and is out of work, so she has no income to pay for the repairs, according to court documents.

Additionally, her insurance company was giving her a hard time regarding the repairs to her trailer, police said.

Muhr is free on $10,000 unsecured bail. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 16.
