Nazareth mayor reports 46 crimes in August

Nazareth Borough police responded to 46 crimes during the month of August, Mayor Fred Daugherty, Jr. told the public today.

The crimes included seven follow-up investigations, 14 criminal arrests, 11 traffic fines and nine warnings, among other responses, Daugherty said. At the top of the list of crimes were 10 larceny thefts, 13 acts of vandalism and 10 disorderly conduct incidents.

There were four reportable traffic accidents and 10 non-reportable accidents, according to the report. A total of $7,703 was collected in fines.

Councilman Thomas Heckman reported a total of 44 borough volunteer fire department calls during August, which included dwelling fires, motor vehicle crashes and a single industrial fire.

During Hurricane Irene, the fire department responded to 13 pump incidents, four wires down and four trees down, Heckman said.

Heckman estimated about 598 man hours and 258 training hours were logged by the fire department during August.
