Lehigh University football team loses overtime heartbreaker to New Hampshire

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

New Hampshire wide receiver Joey Orlando caught the go-ahead touchdown in overtime as the No. 13 Wildcats beat No. 14 Lehigh University 48-41 in a shootout at Goodman Stadium this afternoon.

Orlando, a redshirt junior and Liberty High School graduate, had 10 receptions for a career-high 166 yards with two touchdowns. He added a 56-yard punt return score to his resume and return to Lehigh Valley as well.

New Hampshire's Mike MacArthur hit a 35-yard field goal with 3:23 left, tying the game at 41-all.

Both teams had opportunities after that, but failed to score.

Lehigh senior quarterback Chris Lum threw a career-high six touchdowns with 407 yards passing, but had three interceptions. Senior receiver Jake Drwal had a game-high 11 receptions with a pair of scores, while junior running back Zach Barket had had two TD catches as well.

There was some controversy in overtime as Orlando appeared to be out of bounds prior to making the go-ahead TD reception, but the officials ruled he was pushed out by the defender, so the score stood.

The Wildcats (1-1) earn their first win of the season, while the Mountain Hawks (1-1) lose to a Colonial Athletic Association school for the seventh straight contest.
