Ex-Becahi and Freedom RB Eddie Mateo has a big day at Bloom

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Direct from the Bloomsburg sports website:

Bloomsburg University running back Eddie Mateo was named the PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) Eastern Division Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Huskies 45-10 win over Clarion.

Mateo, a sophomore transfer from Stony Brook, stepped in while All-American Franklyn Quiteh (Pocono Mountain West) was on the sidelines due to an injury. All Mateo did was tie a school record with five rushing touchdowns, which were all scored consecutively over two quarters, and finished with 17 carries for 179 yards (10.5 ypc) in Bloomsburg's win.

It marked the 22nd time in PSAC history that a player scored five rushing TDs, the first since 2008 and the first Bloomsburg back since 2007 when Jamar Brittingham did it against CW Post. Mateo also caught one pass for 10 yards and scored on runs of eight, one, 14, 22 and 38 and also added a run of 40 yards in the win. His first TD run came at the 11:23 mark of the second quarter and his fifth came with just :08 left in the third, turning a 3-3 tie into a 38-3 advantage.

Bloomsburg is 2-0 and will play at IUP on Thursday in a nationally televised on the CBS Sports Network.
