Liberty star shortstop Alyshia Dellatore has tweeted that she has verbally committed to the University of Delaware. Liberty coach Rich Giering said he has not spoken to Dellatore about her decision, but has heard the same thing.
Dellatore, who will be a junior at Liberty in the 2012-13 school year, was The Morning Call's Rookie of the Year in softball for the 2011 season and was an all-area selection this past spring.
In 2012, Dellatore hit .370 with 33 runs scored, four doubles, five triples, four home runs and 19 RBIs. She also walked 12 times and stole 11 bases. She was an all-Lehigh Valley Conference all-star (honorable mention), and was selected to the Lehigh Valley's Carpenter Cup team.
Liberty reached the Lehigh Valley Conference title game, losing to Becahi, but regrouped to win the school's first District 11 4A title. The Hurricanes were 20-5.
Delaware is coached by former Saucon Valley High and Kutztown University standout Jaime Wohlbach.
The Blue Hens were 15-41-1 last season and 36-75-1 in two seasons under Wohlbach.
Wohlbach previously coached for three seasons at Iona.
