Events planned around the Lehigh Valley area

ALLENTOWN will host the following meetings on the proposed leasing of the city's water and sewer utility systems: 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16 at Lehigh Valley Health Network's Mack Auditorium, 2100 Mack Blvd., Allentown (attendees should not park in visitor or two-hour parking spaces); and 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 at Sacred Heart Hospital's second floor conference room, 421 W. Chew St., Allentown (hospital will validate parking voucher). Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski, members of Allentown City Council and a team of expert advisors will present information and answer questions. LEHIGH VALLEY BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION will hold National Honey Bee Day 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18 at the Wildlands Conservancy's Pool Wildlife Sanctuary, 3701 Orchid Place, Lower Macungie Township. Participants will learn about bees, beekeepers' equipment and pollination. The free event, held rain or shine, will feature children's games, free honey candy and color books, and a Cooking with Honey presentation by Jessica Long, 2012 Pennsylvania Honey Queen. Food, provided by market vendors, will include: pig roast, corn on the cob, baked goods and vegetarian dishes by Balasia (using market produce). Beverages will be provided by The Brew Works and Blue Mountain Vineyards. The event will feature music by Emmaus Public Singing Society, silent auction and children's games and activities.
