FROM KEITH GROLLER
Tryone Wright, a Dieruff High graduate, who most recently was the men’s coach at Northampton Community College, was appproved as the Huskies new girls basketball coach on Thursday night.
Wright replaces Steve Middleton who was not rehired after going 6-60 over the past three seasons.
After winning 10 games in the 2007-08 season, Dieruff has won just nine times over the last four seasons combined and has not qualified for the district tournament since 2001.
Wright remembers better times for the Huskies. He is a Dieruff graduate, having played for Hall of Fame coaches Dick Schmidt and Terry German at the Allentown school in early 1970s.
He began his coaching career as an assistant at Allen in 1989 and was also an assistant at Dieruff before taking over as Allen’s head coach from 1998-2000. He was then an assistant at Parkland before going to the college ranks and becoming the head women’s coach at LCCC for the 2004-05 season and then the mens’s head coach at Northampton Community College from 2006-09 where he was 71-19
Last season, he was an assistant men’s coach at Penn State-Lehigh Valley.
