Anthony Recker sent back to Triple-A by the Athletics

http://blogs.mcall.com/groller/ FROM KEITH GROLLER On Monday, the Oakland Athletics reinstated third baseman Brandon Inge from the 15-day disabled list and optioned catcher Anthony Recker, a Catasauqua High graduate, to Triple-A Sacramento. Inge was batting .227 with four home runs and 17 RBI in 11 games with the A's when he was placed on the DL May 17 with a strained right groin. Inge, a longtime fixture with the Tigers, started the season with Detroit and went 2-for-20 in nine games before he was released. Recker was batting .129 in 13 games with Oakland with a double, four walks, three runs scored and 13 strikeouts in 31 at-bats. Recker, who will turn 29 on Aug. 29, played in five games for Oakland in 2011 after being promoted in August. He made his debut at Yankee Stadium and got his first hit at Fenway Park. In 18 MLB games, Recker is hitting .146 (7-for-48) with six runs, two doubles and eight walks. He is still seeking his first career RBI and home run. Oakland manager Bob Melvin said on mlb.com: "Recker wasn't getting an opportunity to be successful for a guy that's used to playing a good portion of the time," Melvin said. "During the season, there will be times where some of the role players will need some at-bats, and that was the case with him."
