FROM KEITH GROLLER
Entering its biggest game of the season, a winner-take-all battle with Georgetown at Goodman Stadium on Saturday, the Lehigh football team is now ranked sixth in both major FCS polls.
The Mountain Hawks (8-1) had been ranked No. 8 in The Sports Network/Fathead.com poll and No. 7 in the coaches poll.
Also, Lehigh received another weekly honor from the Patriot League, but for one of the few times all season it was not for an offensive performance. Senior linebacker Mike Groome was named the PL's defensive player of the week.
Groome, a 6-3, 245-pound Lenape Valley (NJ) graduate, was a major key to Lehigh's 14-7 win over Holy Cross on Saturday. He had 13 tackles, a sack and a key interception. The interception came in the fourth quarter with Holy Cross in Lehigh territory trailing 14-7, and Groome returned the pick 59 yards to change the field position and help seal the win. Groome leads Lehigh with 78 tackles and four interceptions. He wins his second career Defensive Player of the Week award.
