Catty beats Northampton 20-6 to end eight-game losing streak in Turkey Day series

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Catasauqua combined some big plays on offense with stingy defense to post a 20-6 win over Northampton before more than 6,000 at Al Erdosy Field to end a six-game losing streak in the series between suburban rivals.

Northampton still leads the series 54-31-4.

Rough Riders' sophomore Ra'Von Burton was named his team's MVP after running for 133 yards on 10 carries including a spectacular 79 yard TD run with 9:28 left to help put the game away.

Catty also got two field goals from Zachary Pattison and a 50-yard touchdown pass from Jake Bloszinsky to Paryss Marshall in the second quarter.

The Roughies led 10-0 at halftime, but fumbled the kickoff to start the second half. Northampton took advantage to get its lone score of the game -- a short TD run by Marcus Newsom.

But that was it for the Konkrete Kids offense.

Newsom was named his team's MVP.

The game was played in spectacular weather -- sunny with temps reaching into the low 60's. It was quite a contrast to last year's game played in a snowstorm at Catty's Alumni Field.

Catasauqua finished 8-4, while Northampton fell to 3-9.
