Holy Cross football team scores late touchdown to edge Lafayette

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Eddie Houghton ran for two touchdowns and Ryan Taggert threw for two more as Holy Cross beat Lafayette 29-24, snapping the Crusaders two-game losing streak.

Houghton capped off a six-play, 65-yard opening drive with a 12-yard run to give the Crusaders an early 7-0 lead. Taggert then threw touchdowns to Alex Schneider from 2 yards out and Gerald Mistretta from 21 yards out to give Holy Cross (4-5, 2-2 Patriot League) a 23-10 lead with 3:06 to play in the first half.

Taggert finished with 225 yards on 23-of-32 passing and added 74 rushing yards.

Andrew Shoop attempted to rally Lafayette (4-5, 1-2), throwing two touchdowns to Mark Ross to help the Leopards take a 24-23 lead with 9:08 left in the third quarter. But Houghton scored again, this time from 7 yards out, to cap off a 15-play drive that started at the Crusaders' own 3-yard line.
