Lehigh Valley IronPigs have best attendance in Minor League Baseball

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

For the second year, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in 2011 drew more fans than any other Minor League Baseball team, a news release on the International League website says.

Coca-Cola Park was the league's most-visited venue, with 628,985 fans attending IronPigs games this year. The team's per-game average of 9,249 is a franchise record and slightly more than the Pigs' average of 9,227 in 2010, which also was the most in the minor league that year.

The news release says the distinction is especially remarkable because the Lehigh Valley is the fourth-smallest market in Triple-A baseball.

"We have said it over and over again, but there is no doubt that we have the most passionate, energetic and enthusiastic fan base in all of Minor League Baseball," IronPigs general manager Kurt Landes says in the news release.

Landes talked about last year's record-setting attendance in this "Five Questions" audio segment. He said there was a record amount of wet weather this season.

For overall attendance, the Round Rock Express were second with 618,261 attending games at The Dell Diamond, and the Louisville Bats were third, bringing 601,372 to Louisville Slugger Field.

The Bats had the second-highest per-game average of 8,716, and Round Rock Express' average attendance was the third-most, at 8,587.

How many IronPigs games did you attend this season? Do you plan to watch any playoff games?
