Freedom rallies from 4-0 deficit to beat Liberty, 6-4, in LVC softball

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Sunday softball provided a big crowd, an enthusiastic atmosphere and a big come-from-behind win for Freedom today.

Liberty, one of the top teams in Lehigh Valley Conference softball, built a 4-0 lead over the host Patriots thanks in part to solo home runs by Alyshia Dellatore and Jensen Appleman.

But Freedom (2-1, 2-0) came back with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, another in the bottom of the fifth and then took advantage of shoddy Liberty defense to score three runs in the last of the sixth to post a 6-4 Lehigh Valley Conference win.

it was Liberty's first loss after a 3-0 start.

It is highly unusual for high school softball to be played on a Sunday, but rain has wreaked havoc on the spring schedule. In fact, neither team had played since Monday.

So the schools agreed to go on Sunday and in terms of crowd and atmosphere, the move worked out extremely well as parents, family and friends didn't have to worry about getting to the games from work.

"I would play every Sunday," Freedom coach Denny Hollinger said. "We got a lot of parents out here today. It was a great atmosphere. But really, it's just nice to play, period."
