Ryne Sandberg, Rod Nichols joining Phillies coaching staff

http://www.mcall.com/sports/mc-phillies-coaches-1005-20121004,0,5760154.story FROM THE MORNING CALL PHILADELPHIA —— Everything is seemingly in place for Ryne Sandberg to be the Philadelphia Phillies' next manager. •The Hall of Fame second baseman, who spent the last two years as the Lehigh Valley IronPigs' manager, was named the Phillies' third base coach and infield instructor Thursday. It was one of several changes made to the major league team's coaching staff. •Manager Charlie Manuel said Sandberg would be the guy in charge if Manuel gets thrown out of a game or can't manage for any other reason. •Sandberg has proven, at least at the Triple-A level, he knows how to manage. He led the IronPigs to their only playoff appearance in franchise history and compiled a two-year record of 155-132 (80-64 in 2011 and 75-68 in 2012).
