Pat Summitt and Michelle Marciniak are going into the University of Tennessee's Lady Volunteer Hall of Fame together.
Marciniak, the former Central Catholic star who led the Lady Vols to the 1996 national championship, will be inducted with the legendary coach at a private induction ceremony at the Downtown Hilton in Knoxville on Friday night.
The hall of fame's selection committee recommended that the five-year "last service requirement" be waived for Summitt, allowing the Tennessee women's basketball coaching legend to join the Class of 2012.
In addition to Summitt and Marcinak, the other inductees are former Lady Vols track & field star Jane Haist and former All-American golfer Young-A Yang.
"This distinguished group includes a legendary coach and three former student-athletes, whose participation in athletics runs the gamut from the early days of varsity women's athletics competition at Tennessee to an inductee who is being enshrined in her first year of eligibility,'' UT director of athletics Dave Hart said in a statement.
The inductees will also be introduced at halftime of the Tennessee-Troy football game on Saturday.
Mariciniak transferred to Tennessee from Notre Dame and scored 1,004 points over her three seasons with the Lady Vols. She was a two-time all-SEC selection and a Naismith All-American in 1996 when she also was chosen as the MVP at the Final Four. Marciniak is still ranked in the top 10 in 11 statistical categories at Tennessee.
At CCHS, Marciniak, who will turn 39 on Monday, scored a school-record 3,025 points.
