Steve Shiffert to be honored before Emmaus-Easton game on Friday

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Easton football coach Steve Shiffert will be inducted into the Easton Area High School Wall of Fame on Friday night prior to the Red Rovers game against Emmaus.

Shiffert, who to me continues to be one of the most under-appreciated personalities in local sports, is being inducted by Easton as a direct response to his induction into the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame last June during Big 33 week in Hershey.

The ceremony should take place at approximately 6:45 p.m. at mid-field at Cottingham Stadium.

Shiffert is 160-71-1 in his 19th season at Easton.

He is a Nazareth High and Bloomsburg University graduate who began his coaching career at Notre Dame in 1973. He coached there for three seasons before moving on to Easton in 1976. He served as an assistant until 1992 and became head coach in 1993.

His Rovers have appeared in three 4A Eastern finals, two 4A quarterfinals, won five District 11 championships, three East Penn Conference titles, one Mountain Valley Conference championship and five Eastern Conference crowns.

He was named the District 11 Coach of the Year in 2004, 2009 and 201-0 and was The Morning Call Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2009.

He was The Morning Call Sportsman of the Year in 2006 and the Lehigh Valley Football Ambassador of the Year in the Year in 2007.
