Philadelphia Eagles pound out a key NFC East win over the Washington Redskins

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

The Philadelphia Eagles combined an effective ground game with four interceptions by their safeties to produce a 20-13 win over the NFC East rival Washington Redskins this afternoon at FedEx Field in Landover, Md.

The Eagles (2-4), who snapped a three-game losing streak, raced to a 20-0 lead in the second quarter and held on from there thanks in large part to three interceptions by strong safety Kurt Coleman. Coleman became the first Eagle since Joe Scarpati in 1966 to post three picks in one game.

Free safety Nate Allen added a pick as Washington (3-2) starting quarterback Rex Grossman threw four interceptions.

Michael Vick went 18-for-31 for 237 yards, and opened the scoring with a seven-yard TD pass to tight end Brent Celek.

The Eagles' LeSean McCoy ran for 126 yards and a score on 28 carries as Philadelphia piled up 192 rushing yards against the NFL's No. 8-ranked run defense.

Washington pulled to within 20-13 on a two-yard TD run by reserve quarterback John Beck late in the fourth quarter but the Eagles were able to run out the clock behind McCoy.

The Eagles defense held the Redskins to 42 rushing yards and a 1-for-10 conversion rate on third down.
