Lehigh football team ranked No. 10 in two national polls

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Lehigh's 4-1 start has elevated the Mountain Hawks to No. 10 in both national NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) national polls.

Lehigh moved up three spots to No. 10 in the Sports Network/Fathead.com FCS Top 25, which is voted on by media members and sports information directors.

Delaware, Richmond and Southern Illinois were all ranked ahead of Lehigh in last week’s poll, but all lost allowing the Mountain Hawks to rise into the top 10 for the first time since November 2004.

Lehigh jumped four spots in the FCS Coaches Poll.

Just ahead of Lehigh in both national polls are Appalachian State and William & Mary. They come in at Nos. 8 and 9 respectively. The top three teams in both polls are identical -- Georgia Southern taking the No. 1 spot followed by Northern Iowa, the team Lehigh defeated in the first round of last year's NCAA playoffs, and Montana State.

Lehigh opens Patriot League play at Bucknell on Saturday in a battle of 4-1 teams.
