Playing without star player Kamal Richards, who was battling the flu, Pocono Mountain East scored the last 10 points of the game to erase a six-point deficit and beat host Emmaus 53-49 in a first-round game in the District 11 4A tournament on Wednesday night.
Emmaus led 49-43 on two Greg Bobal foul shots with 4:08 left, but wouldn't score again.
The Cardinals pressure proved too much down the stretch leading to three turnovers and five missed shots.
Justin Escobar's layup off a turnover tied the game with 1:46 left and then David Garcia's drive put East ahead with 40 seconds left.
Down 52-49 with time winding down, the Green Hornets' Derek Tannous missed a three-pointer on Emmaus' last possession. East rebounded and Lamont Tillery's foul shot with 0.1 seconds left closed the scoring.
Tillery led East with 24 points, while Bobal paced Emmaus with 23.
The ninth-seeded Cardinals 17-8 go on to play Pocono Mountain West Saturday at East Stroudsburg South in a rematch of last week's Mountain Valley Conference title game. It will be the fourth meeting this season between the rival schools with West winning two of three.
Emmaus closed the book on a 15-8 season, but has most of its key players back in 2011-12.
