FROM ROSS NUNAMAKER
The NASD voted to increase taxes again this year according to an article in the Express-Times.
The 2.5% increase is the maximum according to the district, which is looking at some potential cuts to the proposed budget and doesn’t yet know what state aid or county assessments are set at for next year.
Last month, the district was looking at either a 1.7 or 2.5% hike, and they chose to go with the larger increase.
As reported here previously, the $68.8 million dollar budget is $20 million more than what we needed to educate the same number of students between five and six years ago (one year’s enrollment was just above the other just below next year’s).
