Football season a pleasant 'surprise' for Nazareth Area High School's Dan Harding

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Nazareth Area High School junior quarterback Dan Harding admitted what's happened so far this season wasn't what he expected.

In the summer, the 6-foot-4, 190-pound quarterback was battling senior Ben Bradley for the starting job after Matt Carhart graduated.

Harding won the gig and hasn't looked back.

Through eight games he is 101-for-170 for 1,349 yards with 16 touchdowns and six interceptions.

"I can’t say I anticipated it," Harding said. "In the beginning of the year, I was fighting for a starting job -- moving a day at a time trying to get better.

"It’s a nice surprise, I guess."

Harding set a Nazareth single-game record with 402 passing yards on Oct. 1 against Central Catholic.

The Blue Eagles (6-2 overall, 5-2 Lehigh Valley Conference) currently rank No. 4 in in the Districts 2-4-11 Class AAAA standings with 97.5 points. Nazareth travels to No. 1 Whitehall (7-1, 6-1) this Friday.

Last Friday in a 35-28 win over Parkland, Harding completed 15 of 23 passes for 191 yards with a pair of TDs and INTs.

Harding is also one touchdown pass away from tying Ryan Fry's single-season program record of 17, set in 1996.
