Bangor Area High School senior Stani Schiavone finishes third in PIAA golf championship

Battling a sore throat and a sinus infection, Bangor senior Stani Schiavone battled her way into a three-way playoff in the PIAA State Golf Championships at Heritage Hills Golf Resort, but had to settle for a third-place finish in the tournament won by Chichester's Aurora Kan.

Schiavone had an opportunity to win the title in regulation but a 6-foot-birdie putt on the final hole would not fall.

"I feel good about the past four years and my junior career," Schiavone said. "I look forward to starting my college career. It's the closing of one chapter, and the beginning of another."

Schiavone plans to attend Baylor University on a golf scholarship next fall. Kan, also a senior, is head for Purdue.
