Wednesday's softball recap and standings update: Big wins by Parkland and Northampton

With each day we're starting to get more clarity on the local softball landscape.

It is clear to me by now that Parkland is the team to beat in the LVC, but Northampton, even without Marly Laubach, is a very good team that just might return to the league playoffs.

Both the Trojans and Konkrete Kids posted big wins on Wednesday, and first-year coaches at Salisbury and Bangor seem to be making their mark. A look back:

LEHIGH VALLEY CONFERENCE

Becahi 12, Allen 3 -- Elyse Cuttic HR; Emily Brandstetter 3-5, SB, R; Jean Markovic 3-4, R.

Northampton 4, Freedom 3 --  Brianna Dalton 3-3, 3 B, 2 R, 2 RBIs (go ahead RBI in the 5th); Hannah Peters 1-3, RBI.

Parkland 9, Emmaus 3 -- Trojans win battle of division leaders. Jordy Augusuts 2-3, R, RBI.

COLONIAL LEAGUE

Salisbury 3, Palmerton 2 -- Meghan Williams 2-2, HR; Thalya Creswell 2-4 RBI; Kori Hadinger GW run in bottom of 7th on error by Palmerton.

Pen Argyl 9, Notre Dame 1 -- Emily Smull 13 Ks in the pitching circle, 3-3 at plate; Alyssa Weaver 3-4.

Bangor 12, Wilson 6 -- Kiley Kuchar 2-3, 3B; Mikayla Mulea 3-4, 2B, 3B, 3 RBIs for Slaters, who had 16 hits.

Northwestern 17, Saucon Valley 9 -- The Tigers had 20 hits to offset 14 by the Panthers. Lydia Danner 3-4, HR, 4 RBIs; Cailie Rehrig 4-4, R, 2B, 6 RBIs; Kylee Bennett 2-5, R, RBI.

MOUNTAIN VALLEY CONFERENCE

East Stroudsburg South 7, East Stroudsburg North 2 -- Five runs in the bottom of the sixth were the difference for the Cavs.  Liz Asher 3-4; Cassie Barab 2-4, RBI; Corrie Snyder 2-4, HR, 3 RBIs.
