Thursday night boys basketball recaps; updated standings and Friday night predictions

FROM KEITH GROLLER

Some significant games were played on Thursday night. A look back on what transpired:
BOYS BASKETBALL
COLONIAL LEAGUE
Bangor 58, Pen Argyl 34 -- Jeremy Ringland 13, Reece Jones and Michael Martino 10 apiece.
Saucon Valley 53, Palisdes 52 -- First of all apologies to longtime Palisades scorekeeper Mike Zonay. I said in my column today that he is retired after 39 years and noted a ceremony to honor him before this game. There was a ceremony, but Zonay will not be retiring. He'll be back for his 40th season next year and that is good news. As for the game, Saucon got 19 points from Keith Mosher and 17 from Mike Kane and held off a late Palisades charge to keep its Colonial League playoff hopes alive.
MOUNTAIN VALLEY CONFERENCE
Lehighton 62, ES South 59 -- Huge fourth quarter carried the Indians to the win and a berth in the MVC tourney. Lehighton featured tremendous balance with five players reaching double figures led by Anthony Rossino's 19. Lehighton trailed 33-24 at halftime and 44-39 after three quarters.
Pocono Mt. West 79, ES North 57 -- Another dazzling performance by Joe Wiggins, who tallied 30. He had 19 in the first half in helping West build a 49-30 halftime lead. West could get the top seed in next week's MVC tournament by beating PM East tonight and a Pleassant Valley win over Stroudsburg. Otherwise, these two will meet again in Tuesday's semis.
LEHIGH VALLEY CONFERENCE
Pottstown 81, Bethlehem Catholic 75 -- Could have been a letdown for the Golden Hawks after they clinched the LVC tournament berth with the big win over Freedom on Tuesday night.
Northampton 43, Dieruff 33 -- Konkrete Kids get their first LVC win and just third overall win of the season and continue the disastrous second half of the season for the Huskies, who will not qualify for the District 11 tournament after such promise at the start of the season. Piefka Stonewell led Northampton with 11.
SCHUYLKILL/INDEPENDENTS
Tamaqua 59, Panther Valley 40 -- Brett Kosciolek scored 22 and hit the 1,000-point mark in his career. Bo Rottet added 18.
Marian Catholic 44, Weatherly 32 -- Colts qualified for the District 11 tournament.
Lincoln Leadership 70, Warren Co. Vo-Tech 44 -- Dante Rockmore 21 points.
Pius X 81, LV Christian 27 -- Anthony Holmes 20 points.

FRIDAY NIGHT PREDICTIONS
LEHIGH VALLEY CONFERENCE
Central Catholic 64, Emmaus 59 -- Green Hornets are tough at home, but CCHS has too many weapons and is playing on a different level than everyone else.
Easton 59, Becahi 54 -- Red Rovers are playing for their District 11 lives, while the Golden Hawks may continue to experience a letdown after the big win over Freedom clinched a LVC tourney berth.
Nazareth 64, Northampton 60 -- Konkrete Kids might be riding high after getting that first LVC win over Dieruff.
Parkland 51, Whitehall 48 -- This is where I will be. The LVC North division title is on the line. Expect a great atmosphere. Covered the first one between these two and it was a classic. Give Parkland a slight edge because of its depth.
Liberty 59, Freedom 58 -- Another great matchup with a District 11 berth on the line. Hurricanes have played much better since the return of Oyeniyi.
COLONIAL LEAGUE
Salisbury 69, Southern Lehigh 60 -- Falcons tune up for the Colonial League tournament, which will be at Southern Lehigh.
Notre Dame 81, Wilson 50 -- Two teams that went in very different directions over the final couple weeks of the season.
Catasauqua 67, Northwestern 52 -- Tigers should be inspired by the ceremony honoring their District 11 title team in 1964. But unless those still have some eligibility left, the rolling Roughies will clinch their spot in the league tournament.
Northern Lehigh 60, Palmerton 51 -- Blue Bombers have been playing much better down the stretch and the future bodes well. Bulldogs will definitely miss their three graduating seniors -- Matt Egan, Tyler Dibilio and Josh Landsberger.
MOUNTAIN VALLEY
PM West 74, PM East 58 -- If it weren't for Muahammad Ali Abdur-Rahkman, West' Joe Wiggins might be the player of the year.
Stroudsburg 59, Pleasant Valley 52 -- Bears have nothing to play for except to knock Mounties from top seed. Figures to be a competitive game, but it's hard to see Stroudsburg not taking care of business and setting itself up to be the semifinal host on Tuesday night.
ES North 73, ES South 53 -- The Cavaliers are out of both the league and district tournaments. North is looking to regroup and play better defense after having trouble slowing down West on Thursday night.
