PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Seil Park, Salem Christian
Seil Park speaks three languages — Korean, Mandarian and English — fluently.
Park’s game is developing the same diversity. The 6-foot-5 senior at Salem Christian in Macungie has picked up the nuances of American high school quickly since arriving here before his sophomore year.
Park is from near Seoul, South Korea and spent eighth and ninth grade at St. Paul American School in Beijing China before landing at Salem through an agency.SeilPark2
In three seasons, he scored more than 800 points and is averaging 18.7 points and 11.9 rebounds per game this season in earning the nickname of “Beast From The East” from Salem’s conference foes.
“He had never competed against players his own size until he came to the United States,” Salem coach Jeff Green said. “Plus, the speed of the game gave him a lot of trouble his first year, but Seil is an incredibly hard worker with a desire to be the best player he can be. When coaches show him a new post move, he’ll repeat it at least 1,000 times over the next few weeks until he perfects it.”
Park, who has a 3.7 GPA, has developed a solid “back to the basket” game and has become a strong defender and rebounder. He plans to major in business in college and is receiving considerable Division III interest.
“Seil is just a great kid who deserves any recognition he can get,” Green said.
