And here's the player of the week:
ANTHONY HOLMES -- PIUS X
When most people think about Pius X, they think first about point guard and leading scorer Eric Marbury.
However, Anthony Holmes has also been a steady contributor for the Royals and a major reason why they’re playing for the District 11 Class A crown on Friday night.
Holmes, a 5-foot-7 senior guard, does a little bit of everything for A.J. DePue’s team.Anthony Holmes 002
“Anthony had a bad game for us Tuesday night [in a 71-50 semifinal win over Pottsville Nativity] and he still scored 16 points,” DePue said. “He can shoot the 3 or he can get to the rim. At 5-7, he has great hops and can  hang on the rim. He gets up there and gets rebounds for us. He makes plays that have us coaches looking at each other. Sometimes, we’re in awe of Anthony.”
DePue said that Holmes, who plays two-guard spot, has an outside shot of reaching 1,000 points in his career, depending on how long the Pius X season lasts.
“He’s a great kid … an ‘A’ student,” DePue said. “He’s respectful, polite. He is not one of the guys who is loud. His shows leadership with his play. He’s also a defensive stopper for us. He usually guards the opposing team’s point guard because he’s so quick that he can disrupt the opponent’s offense.”
DePue said Holmes has an opportunity to play at the next level.
“He has been accepted at Neumann College in Philadelphia and can play there and he has a chance at a couple of Division II schools,” DePue said. “His size hurts him, but he has all of the quickness and skills needed to compete at a high level.”
