Lehigh Valley Chapter of National Football Foundation Hall of Fame to add five new members

The Lehigh Valley chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame will have an induction ceremony/banquet on Friday May 4 at the Northampton Community Center in which five new members will be inducted.

And here is the info on the five new inductees:
JOSEPH GUMAN
Joseph was a football team captain at Allentown Central Catholic High School, where he graduated in 1953. He was an Honorable Mention Pennsylvania All State Team selection in 1953.
Guman continued his football career at the University of Richmond, where he was captain of the freshman team in 1953. He then went on to Moravian College where he graduated in 1958. While at Moravian, he lettered all three football seasons from 1955 to 1957.
Joseph continued his football career as an Assistant Coach from 1958 to 1965 at Hellertown High School and from 1965 to 1968 at William Allen High School. He then served as the Head Football Coach at Salisbury High School from 1968 to 1974. He completed his coaching career as an Assistant Coach at Moravian College from 1974 to 1981. Joe and his wife Virginia reside in Bethlehem, and their son Gregory is a PGA Club Professional in Wilmington, North Carolina.
THOMAS J. LUKISH
Tom was a 1954 graduate of Whitehall-Coplay High School where he was the starting quarterback under Coach Willie Piff and was a team captain his senior year. He earned First Team All Lehigh Valley League Quarterback honors as well as All State Honorable Mention in 1953. Tom was also a basketball team captain and a four year letterman in track and field where he held the school record in the pole vault and high jump. He is a member of the Whitehall-Coplay Athletic Hall of Fame.
Lukish continued his football career at the United States Naval Academy where he graduated in 1959. He was a four year varsity football player and was a member of the 1958 Cotton Bowl Team that defeated Rice University 20-6. He went on to have a successful business career with the DuPont Corporation and the Georgia Pacific Corporation, which later owned the old Dixie Cup Plant in Easton.
Tom is a Trustee on the Naval Academy Foundation Athletic and Scholarship Program and a member of the Naval Academy President’s Circle. He resides in Allentown and has been married to his wife Dolores for over 50 years. They have three children, Tom, Jr., Ann, and Dr. Jeff Lukish, ten grandchildren, and daughters-in-law Kris and Donna.
ANDREW MOCONYI
Andrew was a football team captain in 1954 at Bethlehem Liberty High School, where he graduated in 1955. He was an Honorable Mention Pennsylvania All State Team selection, Most Valuable Player of the Allentown-Bethlehem game, and was selected to play in the Northampton County versus Lehigh County All Star Game. He also was an outstanding track athlete in the 880 and the 440 distances and earned the Jasper Award.
Moconyi continued his football career at Penn State University, where he was a three year varsity letterman and a freshman letterman. He then went on to Fort Dix, New Jersey playing for the 4th Army, before signing with the New York Titans, where he went until the final cut. He completed his football playing days as a starter for the Miami Bombers, a Semi-Pro Team.
Andrew became the Head Coach at Bangor High School, where he tied for a league championship, and was named Pocono Area Coach of the Year. He also served as the first Head Football Coach at Freedom High School in 1967. Andrew and his wife of 50 years Aline reside in Bethlehem. They have 3 children, son Michael, daughters Holly Jones and Kristine Hudak, as well as six grandchildren.
KEITH D. NEWHARD
Keith was a 1954 graduate of Northampton High School where he was a four year starter in both football and basketball, and served as football captain in his junior and senior years. He was also a basketball captain his senior year and played baseball. Keith went on to Kutztown State College where he graduated in 1959 and was inducted into the Kutztown University Hall of Fame in 2004.
Newhard coached football, basketball, and track for three years at Pen Argyl High School and then two years at Stroudsburg High School. He then went on to teach in the Allentown School District for 31 years, being named Teacher of the Year in 1995-1996. Keith coached football and was the Head Track Coach at Dieruff High School winning East Penn League championships in both sports in 1981 and 1983. He served as Dieruff’s Athletic Director for 11 years, winning Athletic Director of the Year in 1996, and was inducted into the Dieruff High School Hall of Fame in 1985.
Keith has been a Driver Education instructor for many years in the high schools he served and continues in that capacity for AAA Central Penn, as well as a Cruise and Tour Escort. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the National Football Foundation and the Lehigh Valley Old Time Athletes and Friends for many years. He resides in Whitehall and is married to the former Bernice Cizmar. They have three children, Christopher, Colleen Zeky, and Melissa Torba, as well as five grandchildren.
CARL C. REIMER
Carl was a football letterman at Northampton High School, where he graduated in 1941, playing under coaches Woody Ludwig and Al Erdosy. He then went on to Muhlenberg College where he lettered under Coach Alvin (Doggie) Julian prior to World War II, and then under the legendary Coach Floyd “Ben” Schwartzwalder after the war. He was the first of four Reimer brothers to play for Coach Schwartzwalder at either Muhlenberg College or Syracuse University.
Reimer was the starting running guard on the 1947 Muhlenberg team that finished with a record of 9 wins and 1 loss, including a Tobacco Bowl win over St. Bonaventure. After graduation from Muhlenberg in 1947, Reimer taught Chemistry and Mathematics at Utica College from 1947 to 1949, before moving on to Syracuse University from 1947 to 1953 where he earned his Ph.D. Upon graduation from Syracuse, Reimer worked for the DuPont Corporation from 1953 to 1954.
Following World War II, while still in Europe with the 84th Infantry Division, Carl was the starting running guard for his team which played a 10 game football schedule against other infantry divisions, including a game versus the 82nd Airborne played in the Olympic Stadium in Berlin which his team won. Carl and his wife Elizabeth of 65 years reside in Allentown. They have three children, all college graduates, six grandchildren, and two great grandsons.
