Good man, good official Dennis Schantzenbach passes away

FROM KEITH GROLLER
One of the nicest guys on the local sports scene, longtime area basketball and softball official Dennis Schantzenbach died today after a brief illness.
Schantzenbach was a gentleman, a class act; a guy who loved to be part of the action and was always happy to help out
He officiated for more than 40 years and worked at least three state finals in basketball. I was there at Penn State in 2008 when he worked the 4A state championship game. He also worked state finals in 1989 and 2004 and had the distinction of working PIAA title games at three different venues -- Hersheypark Arena, the Giant Center and Bryce Jordan Center.
Schantzenach, a Hellertown resident, was also the girls basketball coach at Saucon Valley for a few years.
There is no doubt that Dennis touched a lot of lives in a positive way.
He will be missed.
