FROM KEITH GROLLER

I've written a lot about the positives of the Northampton Community College program, especially its women's basketball program which qualified for the national tournament last month.

And the positives keep coming.

What I like about NCC is that it's a place where a lot of local kids flourish and no one has flourished more than Allen High grad and basketball player Halie Cintron.

She has been named an All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Here's the release from NCC:

Northampton Community College women's basketball player Halie Cintron has been named an All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).

Cintron, a sophomore from William Allen High School, led the Spartans to a 25-6 record, their first-ever Region XIX championship and a trip to the NJCAA national tournament in Rochester, Minnesota.

Cintron, who finished her career as the top rebounder in Northampton history (528 rebounds), averaged 11.6 points per game and 8.4 rebounds during the 2011-12 season.

"Halie's numbers don't tell half the story," remarked Head Coach Art Wolfe, "she is so much more valuable to the team than what the numbers reflect ... her hustle, her defensive intensity and her competitiveness make her a special player."

Cintron, who earned First Team All-Region honors for the second consecutive year, is the first Northampton basketball player to earn All-American honors.
