The Whitehall-Coplay School Board tonight welcomed two new members.
Owen W. Eberhart Jr. and Patty Gaugler were sworn in during the board's reorganization meeting at the district office in Whitehall Township. They replace school directors Justin Madaus and Daria Gehris.
In addition to other school directors and district administrators, several of Gaugler's relatives, as well as a few members of the Whitehall-Coplay faculty, were present.
Superintendent John W. Corby said he met with Eberhart and Gaugler each for about an hour in advance of tonight's meeting, and is confident in their commitment to serving the district well.
"I know you'll make great board members," he said. "Welcome. Congratulations."
Returning board members Tina Jo Koren, Arthur F. Taschler Jr. and Joyce Wheeler were sworn in, as well.
The board, with its new members in place, voted Eileen Abruzzi president and Koren vice president. Abruzzi previously served as board vice president; Maudaus was president.
Eberhart and Gaugler will decide on which board committees to serve at a later date, Abruzzi said.
The board next meets on Dec. 12. The regular 7p.m. meeting will be preceded by a 6:15 p.m. executive session.
