•ESPN reports that for the sixth straight year, Monday Night Football (MNF) was the most watched television series on cable television. ESPN’s 17 Monday Night Football telecasts in 2011 averaged a 9.7 rating, representing an average of 9,589,000 households. The finale between the Falcons and Saints registered a rating of 10.6, winning the night for the network in all key adult and male demographics.
•The final numbers are in…and 24 million people tuned in to the Christmas night Sunday Night Football (SNF) telecast of the Bears at Packers. The game was the highest rated Christmas night telecast since 1995 and the third highest rated SNF game of the season.
•NBC is promoting its documentary, Cold War on Ice: Summit Series ’72, a film looking back at the 1972 hockey series between the NHL All-Stars from Canada and the Soviet National Team. The film wil debute January 2nd at 4:30p.m. ET on the NBC Sports Network ( the old Versus)
•ESPN is ramping up coverage of the BCS. It announced today that it will provide special on-site programming from each of the five BCS games. ESPN also announced that Auburn Head Coach Gene Chizik and Oregon Head Coach Chip Kelly will serve as on-site analysts leading up to the BCS Championship game on January 9th.
•CBS Sports Network wants you to ring in the New Year by watching four of the best college football games featuring Tim Tebow. The action starts at 9:00p.m. ET on December 31st as CBS Sports Network re-airs the October 2007 match-up between Florida and Kentucky. At midnight viewers can relive the 2008 SEC Championship between Florida and Alabama. At 3:00a.m. ET fans can re-live the 2009 Florida game against Georgia. Finally at 6:00am ET CBS Sports Network will replay the October 2009 match-up between Florida and Arkansas.
